West Indies batsman Sunil Ambris created an unwanted record on Friday by becoming the first batsman in Test cricket to bag a golden duck after being dismissed via hit-wicket.
The incident took place in the 30th over of Windies first innings. Ambris came into bat after the dismissal of Shai Hope. The 24-year-old debutant who faced Neil Wagner nudged a short ball from the left-hand pacer to the on-side. But in doing so, he went deep into his crease and his feet went on to hit the stumps.
Ambris is now the first player since Australia’s former skipper Steve Waugh in 2003 to be dismissed for a duck via hit-wicket and just the 10th overall in Test history.
